I have two Schaefer twin sheet lead genoa block that wont turn. They slide on the T-track just fine, the pin stops work great, and they look like new. But they don’t spin. I’ve had them soaking in fresh water for a few days now, but no luck. Any ideas?

2 things to try:

  • add a healthy amount of white vinegar to the water, it does a great job of eating away mild corrosion and calcified salt crystals.
  • If I were starting from scratch I would set them on their sides (dry) and spray some WD40 as close the shaft and bearings as I could so that it runs down into the bearings. Keep reapplying every few hours until you’re able to get them to roll with a little force.

Try soaking them in Marvel’s Mystery oil. You can get it at Kragen’s. It really is a wonder. What’s left over, dump in your engine. jnfrey@yahoo.com
